Deirdre & Willie

November continued to be kind to me on Deirdre & Willie's big day - mild, no rain, and even a little bit of sunshine. Deirdre had an unusual preparation for her wedding day, spending a couple of weeks on a jack up rig on the Irish Sea, before coming ashore to get married. Both Deirdre and Willie are specialist Engineers with JB Barry and have worked on many of the major infrastructure projects around the country in recent years.

It was fitting then that we stopped to get some shots by the Gaelic Chieftain statue that overlooks the new section of the N4 through the Curlew mountains. When we were kids, a trip to Sligo was an expedition, and out of the question for much of the winter, but now it's an easy spin up the road. From there, we headed on to the warm welcome of Kilronan Castle, where the party really got started.

The green shutters Deirdre is standing in front of are part of her father Paddy's very successful business, O'Hara Gutters. Inside, there is a poster-sized photo of Bertie Ahern, who opened the premises a few years back. Oddly, nobody was queuing up to be photographed with Bertie on this big day of celebration....
